You Are Not Your Body; that is just a manifestation

Posted on Jun 29th, 2008 by wanderer7 : wanderer7 wanderer7

what a liberating thought to have!

YOU ARE NOT YOUR BODY

all it's ills, all it's pains, all the angst ... this is nothing.

It is just an experience, for a time.

That is not to deny the existence of physical reality (after all, that brick wall is there, right?) but when we understand the TEMPORARY nature of things, the transience, the vehicle that is our body and the world, we aren't dragged down by our circumstances.

Sure, there is no perfect life.  As the Buddha says, you can accumulate wealth, health, and favourable circumstances, but that can fall apart at any time.  Those things are just temporary measures, temporary distractions.

YOU ARE NOT YOUR BODY

what a thought!

the truth will set you free, wanderer7

Indeed.

And aren't you glad that you Aren't your body?
It's sooo temporary, in the larger scheme of things.
After you use it up, why would you want to take THAT with you? Ewww, LOL.

Your body is temporary…but You, the Real You….is Eternal~~<3

I looked at your latest video “Generation Gap”, after I read this post. I wonder:
If you are not your body, if the physical reality you perceive is temporary and generally not to be worried about (as you seem to imply), then why should you work together with others to improve this physical reality? Why does the quality of a temporary thing matter?
I suppose there general question behind this is something like: “If our perceived realities are temporary, then what actually matters?” Then, “If nothing matters, what good is freedom?”
   What do you think?
(I apologize if I have misread your comments.)

Loving your insight into the temporal reality of our existence on this material plane

The comics laughter is giving me the giggles too.

Here's one for you, Hat Man.

“Does matter really matter?
or does matter really matter at all?”

I'm with Hat Man, the sentiment and attitude irks me. It has rubbed me raw.

Dont get me wrong, the onion-game can be very useful. It's been here for a long time. Negate and detach, gain objectivity. That's good, but it needs some updating or qualifiers or amendments or something….. some thing….thing, matter….grounding. Balance.

Transcedence used as an escape may be appropriate in some situations of duress, but it is like a powerful medicine that can cause more harm than good if used inappropriately.

Caught and dragged by Indra's net may our escape deepen the embrace.

The dualistic thinking is that just because something is temporary that its totally unimportant, which the OP didn't suggest. What's self-harming is giving disproportionate importance to the temporary…. since that leads to stress/worry and clingling. Ego thinks worry and struggle are necessary to deal with the unstable nature of the temporal, but to worry and struggle is actually to work against life… to fear and distrust it. No amount of worry and struggle can save you from death, or eliminate all the weeds and thorns in the garden of life. The ultimate and the relative are not ultimately separate.  By plugging back into the source, one also retunes themselves to the rythms, cycles and balancing currents of the eternal dance of life.
