Story of the Wanderer (chapter 7)

Posted on Apr 1st, 2008 by wanderer7 : wanderer7 wanderer7

time is a fiction
which brings us to today
the time is now
the place is earth
we are waiting for you wanderer

o tell us a story wanderer
of the places you have been, the things seen
what have you learnt?
who have you talked to, what did they say?

take your time, wanderer, o wanderer
time is just a fiction of man
we are outside time when we speak right here
these words will live forever

speak wanderer, speak

right now these words are flowing from his mind
a stream of connected thoughts
words of truth, wisdom, and knowledge
words to help his fellow man

we all have a path
we are all travellers on the road of life
some go here, some go there
all are in motion, aiming high
our soul tells us the way

speak wanderer, speak

the mystics and the mages have spoke of it
tha magicians and gandalfs too
you travel toward a destination unseen
a dream that exists in your heart

deep down you know this
all of you do
this is your sacred journey, yours alone
no one tells you what to do

so travel freely, with a light heart
only borrowing this world for a while
you come in, you leave, you return
attachments are temporary things

original verse
by wanderer7

love and light

the power of your life
is in your hands
here to learn, experience, play for a while
be friends, lovers, co-mates at work
this life is your creation, yours alone
grow the tree, and taste the fruit

ultimately,

this life is your creation, yours alone
grow the tree, and taste the fruit

Story of the Wanderer (highway 8)

Posted on Apr 2nd, 2008 by wanderer7 : wanderer7 wanderer7

the darkness
the wanderer has been to dark places
places where there is no light,
no moonlight, sunlight, or candlelight
no, not even the twinkle of a star

in those days of darkness
he would hide in a wardrobe
shut out the world
hoping it would go away, disappear

but the journey beckoned
no-one can resist their own path
there was a way from the darkness
a way back to the light

the lightness
the soul showed the way, a glimmering
the faint light of a new dawn
many years of stumbling and fumbling
would lead the wanderer back

wanderer, o wanderer

know you all, that time is past
we are living in an age of bountiful light
knowledge, wisdom, and timeless truth
these are showering all over the earth

just step outside your routine, just a little
be open to something new
the truth will come flying, like a hawk
straight for you

there is a plot, that's all there is
to keep you chained and grovelling
they need your consent to be a slave
but you are not, you are free

unchain yourself anytime
these chains you may remove
whenever you so choose
an entire life redirected
in a light bulb's instant flash

you are the light, you are the spirit
you are free

lots of free space to fill

roll the credits:

Story of the Wanderer (beacon 9)

Posted on Apr 3rd, 2008 by wanderer7 : wanderer7 wanderer7

sunlight
and finally the seasons had changed,
the long bare winters, gone
the birch tree could, once again, reach out her silver branches
sunlight danced upon windy, woven clouds

the blacksmith hammered day and day the anvil
the song of iron and brass sang loud
the pastures green, the vultures unseen
it was springtime all around

the fabled light of the heavens, from afar
blanched against the sun's great shine
almost too bright, too dominant
all worshipped the one great sun

all worshipped the one great sun

moonlight
the moon, with her pale fine skin
could not, would not, play the same game
her light was more subtle, a tender teasing glare
a woman flashing her eyelids in the dark

the stars, unseen in the torrid day
waited and waited for the moon's gentle care
against the backdrop of a sleeping heaven
starlight and moonlight mingled like lovers

against the backdrop of a sleeping heaven
starlight and moonlight mingled like lovers

this the story of light, the different kinds
the wanderer wants to tell you this now
this is important because you, yourself, are light
light playing in a human body

the wanderer has been inside the fiery sun
walked upon the moon's cratered core
he has circled the pole star, danced with the celestial swan
he has seen. he has been

magical starlight
light is not just light, there are various kinds
different shades, pales, and tangents
individual as a fingerprint, all light
bears the hand's stamp from whence it came

light is not just light
it is so much more

Travels of the Wanderer (prologue 10)

Posted on Apr 4th, 2008 by wanderer7 : wanderer7 wanderer7

the mysterious pineal gland
the wanderer owns a time machine
it exists in his head
called the pineal gland, the third eye
it presents the past and future as visions

in a deep meditative state
one triggers the melatonin, the dmt
hormones that shut out this world
and project us into another

back in time we go, back back
back to thie time of buddha.
there he is, sitting under a tree
gaunt through personal privations

meeting the buddha
he has whipped his body to the limits
deprived of food, nourishment, succor
he has been on the doorstep of madness
he has wanted, wanted to step through

on this day here. the one we watch
he has attained that blessed enlightenment
opening thunderously, a thousand golden flowers
all around his head

the wanderer steps closer, so this is enlightenment!
takes off his tripod hat in respect
the buddha is seated under a tree
the wanderer sits down too

"what do you see buddha, what have you learnt?
what is the meaning of spiritual enlightenment?
do you see gods in the sky, riding flaming chariots?
or goddesses bathing in the moon's slivered tears?"

the process of enlightenment
the buddha turns his head, hearing the wanderer's voice
I have seen, seen deep inside myself
I know who I am, I am aware of knowing who I am
self-awareness

enlightenment is pure self knowledge
who you are, why you think the things you do
why do you want certain things?  hang around certain people?
knowing why is the great secret.

enlightenment is self awareness
being conscious of the mind rambling and dragging
taking you to the fruitless orchids
more and more aware of what goes on

original verse
by wanderer7

love and light

and thanks to the buddha
for his cameo

namaste
enlightenment isn't knowing about the secrets of the universe
it is about knowing the secrets of yourself
more and more aware, the greater light
more and more aware, the greater light

the wanderer bows and says
namaste

Travels of the Wanderer (sojourn 11)

Posted on Apr 5th, 2008 by wanderer7 : wanderer7 wanderer7

meeting genghis khan
the wanderer has a time machine
it sits in his head
he can trigger it any time
just by sitting, trancing, going into a meditative glare

we travel in space with our feet
we travel in time with our minds
we are given all the tools we need
to complete this grand journey in life

the wanderer will go back, back in time
to visit the gruesome genghis khan
ask him a few questions, maybe why
he felt the need to kill and conquer

using armies to conquer
such a vast empire, so many minions
so many dead and slaughtered
the ruling hand of terror and pain
submit or be dead

o wanderer, take us back

in an eyelid's flutter, we are there
by a river, by an army
horses snorting, metal gleaming
a conquering force

the wanderer may approach, as an ethereal spirit
and speak with the reputed khan
a greetings is exchanged, a nod
the wanderer has much to ask

so why, why do what you have done?
what prompted you, what keeps you doing
the things that you do daily?
why so much blood, death, destruction?

someone unloved
the knan stops, ponders, thinks
yes, he knows why
he was fully aware of his conseqential deeds
was to make more like him

he didn't like differences, couldn't stand it
he wanted everyone to be the same
just clones, duplicates of him, the great khan
they would look like him, think like him, talk like him

he would conquer the world, and make a world of khans
that was immortality forever ensured
he lived to serve himself, aggregate duties
service to self

original verse
by wanderer7

love and light
to all
service to self, when you acknowledge no other
it eventually becomes a paranoia
service to self, because you have never trusted
anything, or anyone, else out there

service to self, because thou hast never been loved

Travels of the Wanderer (path 12)

Posted on Apr 6th, 2008 by wanderer7 : wanderer7 wanderer7

who is modern man
the wanderer is here, right now
in this modern world
the world of work, computers, and color tv
the world of modern man

he has stumbled, and scraped his knee
he has bitten his cheek, and bled
he has been hungry, and gone without
he has been tired, and slept

so what is it that truly makes a man or a woman?
is it their possessions, their brand new car
or is it their polish, how well they can convince others
or maybe their family, those they count as friends

empty words
what is it that defines a moderm man?
their work, their education, the books on their bookshelf?
identity is integral
who are you?

o wanderer, wanderer,
tell us, please, who are you?

the wanderer is the wanderer
you knew that answer was coming
a person is what they do
not what they think or talk about

getting things done
a person is what they do
now ponder on that one short line
you are that which you do
that is the true mark of you

words are empty waftings
things to deflect and distract others
deeds which have taken time, energy
these are the things you hold dear.

by all means, start with a dream, a plan
lay out a goal in your mind
affirm it, confirm it, repeat it often
then hold it like an apple in your hand.

a person shall be known by their deeds
not by their talking of them

The Wanderer is Here (track 13)

Posted on Apr 7th, 2008 by wanderer7 : wanderer7 wanderer7

heartstring of truth
the wanderer was born into this world
just as any other
he breathed, burped, farted
a little baby wanderer

another spirit on another journey
beginning all anew
life with all its bumps and jams
nothing in clear view

you are given one tool, one true gift
and that is a sense for eternal truth
everyone has this, every soul
all know when the truth is told

sometimes our mind hides this from us
sometimes our memories lie
sometimes we forget
but we always know the truth

the truth speaks
it makes that tingle in your spine
sends a shiver up your leg
you nod unconsciously, again and again
you know when you have heard the truth

it makes your heart beat quicker
your eyes open wide
wow, did I just hear that?
that was truth's true call

you can hear it from a pine tree
sometimes a little green apple whispers it
sometimes a stranger speaks it
the truth is all around

it abounds and is ever-present
the truth is all around

The Wanderer is Here (song 14)

Posted on Apr 8th, 2008 by wanderer7 : wanderer7 wanderer7

your brain on music
which brings us to here, and the glories of music
the sounds of the universe, speaking, imploring
communicating directly with our souls
building harmonies, swells, chants, crescendos

with instruments we reach out to the elusive infinite
chasing after the everdecaying overtonals
notes dropped like a stone into a pond
ripples and ripples of consciousness

this is the nature of music, structured sound
organised patterns of thought
shaping our brains, carving out channels
new grooves for ideas to flow

music of the spheres
the wanderer laughs
the music is amusing
it delights him
the wanderer is amused

so sound is much more, more than you thought
just like light is more than simple light
sound becomes patterns, musical patterns
the joy of life's rhythmic flow

we all dance to the cosmic tune
every moment, every day
those subtle influences trigger intuition, imagination
new ways of being who we are

sounds patterns, rhythms
harmonies, clusters, melodies
chorals and sacred symphonies
music to delight the mind of man

The Wanderer is Here (binary 15)

Posted on Apr 9th, 2008 by wanderer7 : wanderer7 wanderer7

digital potential
so what is the climate of today?
the theme in today's modernity?
it is the principle of freedom, and choice
being able to fully direct one's life

we may work, we may move homes
we have friends, and passing strangers
we surf the internet at will
our minds go as we please

the wanderer is here
he knows we are on the threshold
a world of infinite potential
possibilities unending to the galaxy's edge

digital co-creators
freedom and potential
when combined, a potent mix
the freedom to choose,
the power to create

freedom and potential

these are the times of co-creation
the wanderer knows
these are the times of co-creation
the wanderer speaks

freedom and potential

a potent mix, a powerful brew
you are all co-creators in this world of ours
on the threshold of something new
glorious, magnificent, unprecedented

co-creation moves forward in the digital age
wedding spirit and binary science
our words, images, music beam out
to all corners of the globe

original verse
by wanderer7

love and light

we are all co-creators
this is the new reality

blessings
co-creators, an unusual word
a little exotic, maybe fringe
but that's what you are,
participating players in today's game

co-creators
participating players in today's game

Wanderer's Epic (continuation 16)

Posted on Apr 10th, 2008 by wanderer7 : wanderer7 wanderer7

mask of wonder
the wanderer wonders what to type
how best to express his wanderering thoughts
he wanders in his wonderings, and soon
becomes a wonder to himself

wander here, wonder there
is the wanderer playing his tricks?
little shades of sound and meaning
these he has loved so long

to wonder at something, is to wander
into new realms of mind
wonder is the unfamiliar, the magical
to wonder at the creative leap

to wonder, and to wander
the wanderer could have been the wonderer
small sound spheres to delight
this wanderering, wondering mind

a younger wanderer
but enough, he says, you have wandered far enough
time to wander back!
come back to us, dear wanderer!
we long for a story

the wonder is left behind
yet this poem is already half done
a roast three quarters cooked
cannot be wound back

so let us wonder a little more
see how wondrous wonder is
wander into the wondrous realms
of wondering, wanderring, wonder

but enough! enough! I've had enough!
enough of this puerile play
you have wondered and wandered enough
time to go to bed

sleep wanderer, sleep
and return refreshed

Wanderer's Epic (session 17)

Posted on Apr 11th, 2008 by wanderer7 : wanderer7 wanderer7

cosmic trigger
increasingly, there is a collective mood
surrounding the soul of humanity
we get exposed to information, new ideas
all at the same time

but there is somethere more, something deeper
which is at work here
I call it the cosmic trigger
a term borrowed from elsewhere

the cosmic trigger
what is it?
it is something that sets us on synchronised time
aligns our wills and moods

robert anton wilson
you may see it in an office space
or observe it in a family home
a mood spreads without a word or deed
peoples's thoughts become attuned

the cosmic trigger
when we perceive an outside influence
but aren't truly aware of it
we just adjust, not knowing why

wanderer, o wanderer

this eventually leads to time locks
events which cannot unfold till then
time locks hold specific, spiralling energies
explosive revolutionary change

a time lock is set on twenty twelve
that is the year 20 12
less than five years passage
and a golden golden change

time lock on 2012
wanderer, o wanderer

the cosmic trigger and the time lock
two important concepts
two things that are changing
the souls of men, women, and children

the universe nurtures and protects

Wanderer's Epic (manifestation 18)

Posted on Apr 12th, 2008 by wanderer7 : wanderer7 wanderer7

suffering on the journey
so the wanderer has been through the hell fires
he has walked on large shards on glass
he has been hit in the stomach, and pummeled hard
he has been through much

suffering is a noble step on the journey
a test of fortitude and courage
it draws you into yourself, those inner reserves
quite unknown until now

the mind starts crafting, becomes cunning
you regain that keen animal's edge
a heightened awareness, sixth sense
seventh sense, eighth sense, and more

one becomes multi-aware, multi-sensing
operating on many many levels
one becomes differentiated through experience
the great task is to re-integrate the soul

the siren s call
o wanderer, wanderer, what do you mean?

every experience we have, every movie seen
takes us away from our centred self
it becomes a point of dfference, a mental path
that leads to many wondrous thoughts

the journey away is exciting and new
and many become captured by the haunting lights
some only hear the siren's lonely call
and stay away forever and ever

experiences are to be had, enjoyed
then brought back to the soul's nervous centre
it becomes integrated into our being. absorbed
a sponge of memories is what we are

experiences must be broken down, for what they are
examined, analysed, fourier processed
split into its constituent waves
sorted and stacked, put in its place

fourier waveforms
o wanderer, wanderer, this is hard material!

we differentiate, then we re-integrate
that is the soul's eternal wash-rinse cycle
a yin-yang of memory
expanding, then contracting

we become ever more complex beings

once again,

we become ever more complex beings

Travails of the Wanderer (union 19)

Posted on Apr 13th, 2008 by wanderer7 : wanderer7 wanderer7

divine alchemy of soul
going into the deep deep blue
diving deep into the ocean bliss
see the whales? the dolphins
they are swimming alongside of you

so sweet, the taste of cosmic bliss
ascended into the heavenly state
a transformed body, a transfigured spirit
agents become a being divine

this the divine alchemy applied to oneself
transforming oneself through thought
intense meditation, chakra awakening
the scent of perfumed spirit

it awakens the dark smoky tantra
the mystic union of spirit with spirit
not sex, but divine heavenly union
immersion into the ocean of love

total, full. absolute acceptance
that is the mantra of love
love, love, love for all
love to all in this vast ineffable cosmos

Travails of the Wanderer (change 20)

Posted on Apr 14th, 2008 by wanderer7 : wanderer7 wanderer7

the new wanderer
time had finally passed, the apprentice
was becoming the master
learning his craft day by day
connecting all the strands

he was ready to graduate,
this his own private school
learning from the world, books, others
he would ascend to the wander's world

with staff in hand, a clever gleam in eye
he woke up merry today
it was clear as a diamond's sharp facet
what needed to be done

a transformation, a transfiguratoin
a morphing of outer form
to conform with the new inner self
the wanderer of light, shining spirit

he would radiate the light to others
he would act as a lighthouse and beacon
those who had stumbled and strayed away
would be reminded of the light

original verse

love and light
so he changed
his garb, his profile, his outward express
a bit older in manner, more beard
the new wanderer is here!

Travails of the Wanderer (physical 21)

Posted on Apr 15th, 2008 by wanderer7 : wanderer7 wanderer7

secrets of the masons
the master mason is here, odin the wanderer
say a warm greetings my friends
he will guide you on this journey hence
he will guide you well

wanderers work on many different levels
sometimes they stay in the spirit form
where they may dance like the airy breeze
or, more often, they are called to the physical

this world of the flesh, this simulation
is ever so real!
in fact, while you are here, acting
it is total and utter reality

the matrix is real
it is no illusion, as many claim
the physics of pain and flight are here
the only illusion lies in thinking
that this is all you are

you are a spirit having a human experience
say this loud and clear
you are a spirit having a human experience
this is the truth of you

the body is real, the world is real
this is where you have come to play
the body your instrument, the world your stage
this is your grand simulation

the spirit expressing itself in 3d
the spirit feeling emotions in 3d
the spirit learning in 3d
the spirit finally transcending 3d

the wanderer odin says,

the spirit finally transcending 3d

so the great central sun sends out her rays
awakening all of mankind
it is done through love, this light
to bring us closer to the source

the source of all there is, light
love is the striving towards this
love brings us closer to the thing we love
till there is a light cosmic union

the great central sun
sits in the middle of our galaxy
a dark spinning vortex, spewing
the light of glorious life

divine alchemy
into alignment we come, right now
triggering the changes we see
on the dna level, the energetic level
our consciousness is being transmuted

ths is the divine alchemy

this is the divine alchemy, my friend
know it well
the wanderer know, he has been there before
when whole planete have bloomed

think of the earth as a giant being
a person if you will
she has a body, she has thoughts
she loves you so so much

earth birth
she allows you to live on her surface skin
lends you the earth, trees, clean air
she provides for you in all ways
all she asks is that you be wise

Wanderer's Choice (ascending 25)

Posted on Apr 19th, 2008 by wanderer7 : wanderer7 wanderer7

conspiracy theories abound
so why believe this, any of this?
why tolerate outrageous conspiracy theories?
if the schools and news and tv say one thing
why not just believe them?

would they lie? why wouldn't they tell the truth?
why question the integrity of the government?
after all, they've done well by you,
haven't they, over time?

if you see no reason to doubt, then don't
we all have our own choices to make.
but if something seems fishy, funny
then ask questions, please!

bad health care
do you query the nature of money?
the economy, businesses, how they operate?
what about wars? the destruction of nature?
do you agree with the ethics and morals of all these?

what about the medical industry, big money
health care that just doesn't work
how many pills?  how many vaccines?
before you realise it just doesn't work

all the wanderer asks is just one thing
stay open-minded
when something doesn't add up, seems inconsistent
ask questions, ask questions

the truth is out there
use google, pursue alternative answers
see what other people have to say
hear their stories, their personal experiences
what they have lived through, had to suffer

conspiracies aren't conspiracies
if they speak the truth
word games used to blind you
word games used to blind you

Wanderer's Choice (decision 26)

Posted on Apr 20th, 2008 by wanderer7 : wanderer7 wanderer7

kids know the truth
wanderer, o wanderer
you have been walking this path
for many moons, many seasons
when did you first know, you were this man?

I was asleep at school
asleep all my life
the faint callings of elves and magic
I heard in comics and novels

I did dream, dream
of being that hero one day
to be noble, courageous, bold
but that's all it was, a child's dream

school uniformity
I studied and learnt at school
discipled in the subjects that don't matter
a small, zany, mysterious kid
my aura still knew

eighteen years of this tight, controlled system
a fully programmed human
I was on the course to robotdom
what stirred you, turned you away?

questions, questions, from a friend
he aired them mainly to himself
what is society? what is humanness?
where is the creative, ingenious spark?

mystical knowing
these simple queries lodged themselves deep
and post-school I took a long leave
headed overseas for a couple of months
stewed in the tropical heat

to my already troubled mind
I added heavy doses of mysticism and new age
a serious seeking for answers
I only got so far

I wasn't ready yet, too young to truly know
I wasn't ready yet, so much more to be learnt
to be continued,
tomorrow

Wanderer's Choice (launch 27)

Posted on Apr 21st, 2008 by wanderer7 : wanderer7 wanderer7

my first uni
in the last episode of wanderer ...

the wanderer returned from overseas
still a young man
barely eighteen years of age
just out of high school

university beckoned
the scholarship was too enticing
what looked to be a promising path
turned into the classic horror year

the questions were mounting
the doubts grinding
everywhere he looked for answers
none would he find

the studies were numbing
campus life cold and chilling
long hours of nothingness
set adrift into lifeless boredom

deadly unknowing
wanderer, o wanderer

weeks and weeks of mental anguish
each accumulated like a growing crucifix
the pain in his steps, his weary head
no solace; none anywhere

the wanderer was isolated;
none could help him now
he had shed his past too fast
dug his own existential grave

delay, delay, wait and wait
none could help him now

wanderer, o wanderer

finding the light
then the mystic's voice spoke, the inner self
the source of all truth and acknowledgement
a resonating sound like a gently beating kettledrum
it said: "the truth shall set you free"

the truth shall set you free; that was all
all that was said, all that was needed to be said
from that instant on, the wanderer's compass was set
to truth would he guide his spiritual star

to truth would he guide his spiritual star

Explanation of the Tao (1)

Posted on Apr 23rd, 2008 by wanderer7 : wanderer7 wanderer7

elegant simplicity

The tao that can be told
is not the eternal Tao
The name that can be named
is not the eternal Name.

The unnamable is the eternally real.
Naming is the origin
of all particular things.

Free from desire, you realize the mystery.
Caught in desire, you see only the manifestations.

Yet mystery and manifestations
arise from the same source.
This source is called darkness.

Darkness within darkness.
The gateway to all understanding.

well, the first verse speaks for itself ... if any words of the tao are known to the wider public, then it is these.  The nameless Tao ... something that can only be experienced, hinted towards; much like a piece of great music, words can only etch out the faint outlines, the thing is of another quality altogether.

the second verse reminds me a little of Plato - "Naming is the origin of all particular things" - referring to the world of Ideas, which are ethereal, and out there, and the Forms, which we see here on Earth, and are tangible, existing.  The next verse expands on this.

skipping to the last verse, "Darkness within darkness.  The gateway to all understanding."  A very mysterious, enigmatic couplet.  Open to interpretation.  My reading of it compares the Path of Understanding to the Fool Card of the Tarot; before one can learn anything, one has to accept the current state of ignorance, which is a hard thing to do.  The Fool knows his own weaknesses, and so can move beyond them.  "Darkness within darkness" ... the lack of knowledge in our inner mind ... the abyss of understanding and comprehension.  Once we move into that dark space, then we can start learning true wisdom.

ps for those interested to know what happened to the Wanderer Series, I decided to take a short break.  It happened rather suddently, and I think yesterday's summary post triggered a bit of introspection and pondering about what I had achieved thus far, and where I might progress towards.  So a bit of a time-out; the series is definitely not over!  Think of this Tao Series as a short hiatus.  :-)

Analysis of the Tao (2)

Posted on Apr 24th, 2008 by wanderer7 : wanderer7 wanderer7

non attachment

When people see some things as beautiful,
other things become ugly.
When people see some things as good,
other things become bad.

Being and non-being create each other.
Difficult and easy support each other.
Long and short define each other.
High and low depend on each other.
Before and after follow each other.

Therefore the Master
acts without doing anything
and teaches without saying anything.
Things arise and she lets them come;
things disappear and she lets them go.
She has but doesn't possess,
acts but doesn't expect.
When her work is done, she forgets it.
That is why it lasts forever.

the first verse here is a beautiful play on the nature of perspective in our thinking.  It also brings in the notions of duality; of knowing one thing in terms of its opposite.  One's individual perspective, and the notion of duality; two key concepts in the spiritual progress of any pilgrim.

the middle verse is just a long riff on the aforementioned duality; think of it as an ecstatic guitar solo in the middle of a pop song; exuberance and joy at being at able to play free.  In short, opposites create each other.  We could easily add Democrats and Republicans into that tempestuous stew; they feed off each other, constantly.

which brings us to the closing verse ... the opening statement is a thing of beauty.  I repeat it here - "Therefore the Master acts without doing anything and teaches without saying anything."  Just ponder on those words for ten seconds.  Miraculous, no?  Just by being around, merely existing, the Master exerts an influence on his surroundings; through his exemplary life and character; he doesn't need to try and teach; his whole life is a shining example of the principles he admires and strives after.

The rest of this verse is the tao itself; in free-flowing action.  Not possessing, not clinging, just doing what needs to be done, and then moving on.  The cosmos will balance itself out, has it's own debit and credit columns; the little guy here on earth need not worry about things like that.  What comes comes, what doesn't doesn't.  Don't fret is the message here.  Just do your best, and if it is in divine accordance, then the actions will bear their due fruit.

now you know why I preferred the poetical form; with prose, I just run on and on, and on!

blessings, and love and light.

Ponderings on the Eternal Tao (3)

Posted on Apr 25th, 2008 by wanderer7 : wanderer7 wanderer7

the empty mind

If you overesteem great men,
people become powerless.
If you overvalue possessions,
people begin to steal.

The Master leads
by emptying people's minds
and filling their cores,
by weakening their ambition
and toughening their resolve.
He helps people lose everything
they know, everything they desire,
and creates confusion
in those who think that they know.

Practice not-doing,
and everything will fall into place.

the first verse speaks to envy, and how it works in the mind of man.  Start placing people on a pedestal; and they will want to worship.  Hoard things; and others will want what you have.  Share the common weal, be part of the community you are in; there are individual differences, but you are all spirits to begin and end.

"The Master leads by emptying people's minds and filling their cores" - what an opening salvo in the next verse!  bliss!  beauty!  before we can reform who we are, we have to let go of a certain amount of our past, the little lingerings of who we were.  And once we have seen the untruths, we need to have truths to take their place.  The 'Master' here, of course, is no specific person, or teacher, but rather the learning process itself; you interacting with the divine cosmos in real-time.

this magnificent second verse continue on with the developmental process; how we become more transcendent individuals; "He helps people lose everything they know, everything they desire" is more poetical bliss.  Very buddhist in thinking.  And then the Master "creates confusion in those who think that they know"; there is nothing quite like the cocksure person in this life; in terms of close-mindedness they are sealed tighter than a vacuum jar.  Think Richard Dawkins, or Christian Preachers.  Those that THINK THEY KNOW, know nothing at all.  Be open to all viewpoints, all the time keeping your own centredness.  Life is multifacteted; like a beautiful gleaming diamond, splintering the light in all directions.  Diversity is the rule of nature.

and we close with the zen couplet ... don't do, and things happen!

love and light my friends

The Mysterious Tao (4)

Posted on Apr 26th, 2008 by wanderer7 : wanderer7 wanderer7

the creative void

The Tao is like a well:
used but never used up.
It is like the eternal void:
filled with infinite possibilities.

It is hidden but always present.
I don't know who gave birth to it.
It is older than God.

ok, we get into the mystical Tao here ... enigmatic, terse, almost incoherent ... many competing, almost contradictory ideas at play.  Let's dissect.

"The Tao is like a well: used but never used up" - so the Tao is something like a life force; it persists, and continues on through the generations (like a mother giving birth to another mother) ... eternal, existing, powering.  The Tao IS what drives life and motion, creativity and dreams; it is in us, in nature, in the cosmos itself at the deepest level.  Could the Tao be the mysterious Aether of old?  that's for you to decide.

"It is like the eternal void: filled with infinite possibilities" - modern quantum mechanics sheds great light on this statement.  I don't know if the translation was done with this concept in mind (I am using the Stephen Mitchell translation from 1988) but it definitely sounds like he is referencing this idea.  The "eternal void" and "infinite possibilities" definitely point to a vacuum state where the Heisenberg Uncertainty principle is playing rampant; ie random fluctuations around the zero point.  If the past two sentences made gobbledegook to you, then don't worry, modern physicists don't understand it either.  Just know that the forefront of modern physics in the 1930's realised that things couldn't be measured with an infinite precision; there was always something missing.  That missing something was the blurred edge of nature itself.  Chaos.  Randomness.  Creativity!

getting onto the last verse ... "It is hidden but always present" - sounds like the aether to me! ...

"I don't know who gave birth to it. It is older than God" - and Lao Tse graciously confesses that he doesn't know EVERYTHING.  The Tao is old, even older than god.  It is the matrix, the prime source for everything that is, was, and will be.  One can only marvel at it's timeless fertility.

love and light my friends.

The Good / Bad of the Tao (5)

Posted on Apr 27th, 2008 by wanderer7 : wanderer7 wanderer7

and both good and bad

The Tao doesn't take sides;
it gives birth to both good and evil.
The Master doesn't take sides;
she welcomes both saints and sinners.

The Tao is like a bellows:
it is empty yet infinitely capable.
The more you use it, the more it produces;
the more you talk of it, the less you understand.

Hold on to the center.

well, this first verse could seem quite controversial to some.  "The Tao doesn't take sides; it gives birth to both good and evil" continuing on from the last piece of analysis, the Tao could be likened to a life force, to the Mothering Principle.  And just like a mother can give birth to sons and daughters that take different paths in life (some good, or positive, and some less good, which could be construed as negative) the Tao here is giving birth to "both good and evil".  And like the ever gracious, loving Mother the tao "doesn't take sides".  This can be truly hard to stomach for some people; and I fully understand.  But know that in any conflict there are always two forces in opposition, and neither can claim the eternal side of justice.  Such causes just do not exist in the world.

The next metaphor ties into the aether principle again.  "The Tao is like a bellows: it is empty yet infinitely capable".  It can be read in many ways; the tao is just an instrument, not a thing in itself; the tao is a focusing force; the tao is energy in the hands of those that wish to use it properly.

The next two lines of this second verse are just sublime.  "The more you use it, the more it produces" ... lovely!  you get more and more out of it!  not like oil or coal, this is a principle that extends into infinity!  and "the more you talk of it, the less you understand" ... ummm, maybe I should go silent right here :-)  But seriously, what I think Lao Tsu is referencing here is the contrast between the talkers about things (the so-called theorists) and the doers of things (the practitioners).  Think of the gulf between the baseball player who does, and the baseball analyst who talks.  Different things, no?  The Tao is most effective when integrated into your everyday actions, and becomes a seamless part of your worldview.  That is the ultimate goal of any wisdom school of teaching.

and we finish with a little piece of advice: "Hold on to the center".  Don't let yourself be drawn into the oppositional sides of any conflict (they each exaggerate their own positions) ... try and see the truth as it truly as, as it presents itself unfiltered.  Stay centred in yourself, and in your own experiences; the things that you have ACTUALLY LIVED THROUGH.  All else is just speculation; everything must ultimately be compared to your unique perspective and life path.

love and light

A Short, Little Tao (6)

Posted on Apr 28th, 2008 by wanderer7 : wanderer7 wanderer7

tao of mirrors

The Tao is called the Great Mother:
empty yet inexhaustible,
it gives birth to infinite worlds.

It is always present within you.
You can use it any way you want.

well, this promises to be a short exercise; but as we all well know, sometimes the shortest statements of truth leave the most left out.  The opening line reconfirms the mothering principle of the Tao, "empty yet inexhaustible" just like a womb ... and "gives birth to infinite worlds" is the creative fecundity.  This first verse doesn't appear to present too many difficulties, in light of the previous analysis we have done.

moving on ... "It is always present within you" which is something nice to know, and you "can use it any way you want" which is empowering to the core.

umm, not much meat here in these two verses ... and nothing overly profound or new.  Lao Tsu must have had a bad blogging morning that day (we all suffer from it from time to time).

how about I improvise a little tao?  let's see what the wanderer can dredge up -

the Tao speaks the words of Truth
Truth that many are not willing to hear
why does man hear the Truth, and ignore it?
because it exposes him for what he is
none dare look in the mirror of their soul
and see the beings they truly are
the Tao can be confronting at times
the Tao can be challenging all the way
the Tao is an accurate mirror of who you are
so some embrace it, others dread it
